If you'd like to forward a domain name that you have to a different domain name or subdomain, one way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain name being pointed loses all of its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it is directed to. This way, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be directed to the site you have created, but it'll also appear in the browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all the traffic from various subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain since this kind of a record created for the main domain name renders it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Web Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record with our Linux cloud web hosting packages is extremely easy. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section committed to the DNS records of your domains, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in a couple of simple steps. You will find a video tutorial inside the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature offers you a number of possibilities - if you create a company site on our end, for example, the workers can use their emails with the company domain, not with the address of our mail server. If you choose to create an Internet site through a different provider which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain name hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, if you have an online store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you could set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and forward it to the main domain name, so all your clients are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Managing DNS records usually seems a challenging task to the people with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with every single Linux semi-dedicated package which we offer, is extremely simple to use. If you want to create a CNAME record for any purpose, all you need to do will be to select the domain or subdomain that you need, choose the type of record, that will be CNAME in this case, then type in the value i.e. the domain or subdomain you are forwarding to. The procedure is very easy and you can set up the record in the DNS Records section of the CP. Within the hour the new record is going to be 100 % active and within a couple of hours it will propagate around the world. If you're not sure what you need to do, we've prepared a comprehensive help article and a short video tutorial regarding how to go about creating a CNAME record and they're both situated in that same section of Hepsia. Needless to say, you can also get in touch with us for help whenever you want.
